Devin Funck is a 12 year old boy who was attacked by an alligator near his home in Slidell Louisiana on July 30th 2008. The 500 pound nearly 12 foot long aquatic reptile nearly killed Devin. Devin's bravery and strength coupled with several miracles and the quick response of his friends, neighbors, several emergency response and law enforcement agencies, doctors, surgeons and nursing staff saved Devin's life. The chronological events were like those in a heroic tale of rescue and survival in a story that could have ended in tragedy. Devin's left arm was taken by the alligator and was not able to be reattached. He is fortunate to have survived and is recovering with his mother and father at his bed side. Devin has a positive attitude and has been stunning the doctors with his recovery. He has looked death in the eye and bravely challenged it! Devin has met this life challenge with a bravery that most grown men do not possess. He is my Hero! The Devin Funck Fund has been set up to help provide immediate help for Devin and his family as well as a Trust Fund to assist Devin with his medical needs in the future. Devin is facing physical and emotional recovery, prosthetics, physical therapy, possible surgeries, and home and lifestyle changes with an unknown cost that alone can be devastating. So many people, adults and youth, have been inspired by Devin's story.
